Dental Crowns

Do you have teeth that are structurally damaged or in need of cosmetic enhancement? Dental crowns may be the treatment for you.

At Cosmetic and Implant Dentistry of Connecticut, we use the latest technology to create gorgeous same-day crowns in our own office.

By working with our Hamden, CT, dentists, you can skip wearing temporary crowns and restore your smile in just one appointment.

CEREC Makes Same-Day Treatment Possible

While other practices can take weeks to create a crown through a third-party dental lab, we use the CEREC® system to craft custom same-day crowns. This modern dentistry technology allows us to effectively and quickly create your custom crown, so there's no need for a waiting period or temporary crown. We can complete the entire process of designing, creating, and placing your permanent dental crown in a single appointment at our Hamden, CT, office.

CEREC
A digital scan of your smile will be used to create a blueprint for your restoration, which will then be uploaded to our milling system. Your crown will be crafted with the highest degree of accuracy, ensuring a seamless fit and excellent function. The material we use can be color-matched to your natural tooth shade, so your crown will be indistinguishable from the rest of your smile.

How Are Dental Crowns Used?

Dental crowns have useful applications in many types of dentistry and can last for over 10 years with good care. A crown may be right for you if you need to:

Protect a Damaged Tooth

For teeth affected by extensive damage or decay, cleanings and fillings may not be enough to restore their form and function. We can quickly fabricate a dental crown to cover a compromised tooth, enhancing its appearance and protecting it from further damage.

Mask Cosmetic Flaws

Dental crowns can be used to conceal numerous cosmetic flaws, including chips and cracks, small gaps between your teeth, and dental discoloration that resists conventional teeth whitening treatments. Your crowns can be customized to have the ideal shape, size, and color to flatter your smile.

Cap a Tooth After a Root Canal

After eliminating decay from the inner chamber of a tooth during a root canal, a dentist will often cap it with a protective crown to give it structural support and reduce the risk of future problems. Your dentist in Hamden can perform a virtually painless root canal to end your dental discomfort and cover your tooth with a lifelike crown in the same appointment, getting the look and function of your smile back on track.

Replace a Missing Tooth

If you're dealing with tooth loss, dental implants and implant-supported restorations are the best way to restore the appearance and stability of your bite. After surgically placing a dental implant in your jawbone, your dentist will fabricate a natural-looking crown that fits precisely on the post and seamlessly fills the gap in your smile. We can sometimes place an implant and fit it with a custom dental crown in one day.

Dental Crowns Create Incredible Transformations

Before Dental Crowns
Before Dental Crowns This patient was dealing with a combination of dental crowding, staining, and worn, misshapen teeth.
After Dental Crowns
After Dental Crowns Our dentists used crowns to correct all the patient's issues at once. We were able to give them a brighter, more uniform smile with a completely natural look.

The Dental Crown Timeline

Initial Consultation

During your first visit to our Hamden office, your dentist will perform a thorough examination of your smile and determine whether a dental crown is the right treatment for you.

Numbing Anesthetic

The dental crown process is not especially uncomfortable, and most patients feel virtually nothing with just local anesthetic around the treatment area; however, if visiting the dentist makes you anxious, let us know if there is anything we can do to help you feel more relaxed.

Shaping the Tooth

Any decay or damage will be removed, and your tooth will be gently shaped to accommodate your dental crown.

Fabricating the Crown

Your dentist will take a digital scan of your smile. This scan will be used as a guide in the creation of your customized crown. Our CEREC machine will create a crown that looks natural and fits comfortably over your treated tooth.

Placing the Crown

Because CEREC can create restorations in a single office visit, you won't need to bother with temporary crowns or waiting periods that last for several weeks. Once your crown is complete, your dentist will secure it to the tooth and confirm that you're happy with the look and fit.
