Extractions

Our office always encourages good oral hygiene, and will take every opportunity to prevent a patient’s tooth loss.   However, a tooth may need to be extracted, or removed for the following reasons:

Infection or abscess
Severe decay
Severe gum disease
Correction for orthodontics
Malformed or malpositioned teeth
Fractured teeth
Impacted teeth (third molars, i.e. wisdom teeth)

After the extraction, it is reasonable to expect some discomfort and patients are given directions for pain and discomfort.  Dr. Gross advises patients to call the office immediately if they experience fever, swelling, severe pain or prolonged pain.
