Orthodontics

Crooked teeth may seem harmless, but they can lead to serious oral health problems like decay, worn enamel, and missing teeth.

Orthodontic options like braces and clear aligners can help prevent these serious oral health concerns from developing.

Our offices in Branford, East Haven, and Hamden, CT, offer SureSmile® aligners for teens and adults who want straighter teeth.

Straighten Your Teeth With Clear Aligners A Revolutionary Orthodontic Option

SureSmile is a clear aligner system that gradually moves teeth into their ideal positions. During an appointment with your dentist or orthodontist, scans are taken of your teeth to plan your treatment and create aligners that are as comfortable as possible. These scans are sent to a SureSmile digital lab where specialists determine the best way to move each tooth into its ideal position and fabricate your aligners accordingly.

Once your custom trays are made, you can begin treatment. Wear each set of aligners for two weeks, then progress to the next set in the series. At the end of your treatment, you should have beautifully straightened teeth.

Experience the Benefits of SureSmile Clear, Discreet Orthodontics

Undetectable Treatment

If you are an adult who wants to straighten your teeth, you may be put off by the idea of bulky metal braces that are noticeable and may make you feel self-conscious in social situations. Likewise, your teen might feel embarrassed about wearing metal braces. SureSmile clear aligners are a virtually unnoticeable option that effectively straightens mild-to-moderate misalignment without drawing attention to the fact that you're receiving orthodontic care.

Removable Aligners

While braces can't be removed after orthodontic treatment has begun, SureSmile aligners can. As long as you're committed to wearing your SureSmile aligners for 20-22 hours each day, you can remove them to eat, for photographs, and for special events.

No Dietary Restrictions

Unlike braces that have dietary restrictions because certain foods can damage the brackets and wires, SureSmile clear aligners can be removed during meals. You can enjoy all of your favorite foods without worrying about damaging your orthodontic appliance and getting food debris stuck in your braces.

Elevated Confidence

Many patients report feeling more confident in both their personal and professional lives after straightening their teeth. We want our patients to face the world with confidence, and SureSmile clear aligners allow you to do just that. After treatment, you'll no longer have to fixate on your dental flaws—you can simply smile with ease.

Traditional braces require metal wires and brackets to align your teeth. Clear aligner treatment using SureSmile works using a series of trays that gently guide your teeth into proper alignment.

Shouldn't I See an Orthodontist?

While many patients choose to visit an orthodontist for braces, clear aligners, or another orthodontic option, this isn't necessary. Many dentists are well-equipped to provide patients with orthodontics, and our dental team is no exception. You can save yourself the hassle of finding an orthodontist and choose to receive SureSmile treatment for yourself or your child at our Hamden, CT, office.

Consultation

During your initial consultation at one of our Hamden-area dental offices, your dentist will examine your mouth and discuss your goals to determine if orthodontic treatment using SureSmile is right for you.

Impressions

Next, we will take impressions of your mouth to create your aligner trays. These trays are customized to your bite and your specific treatment goals.

Begin Treatment

Once your aligners are ready, you will begin your orthodontic treatment by wearing your first set of aligners. After about two weeks, you will switch to the next set in the series. Your trays must be worn for at least 20-22 hours a day for optimal results.

Checkups

Every four to six weeks, you will visit one of our Hamden-area offices for a checkup. This will allow your dentist to monitor your results to make sure treatment is progressing.

Treatment Complete

After about 12-18 months, your treatment should be complete. You will be given a retainer to wear at night. This will help keep your teeth straight for years to come.

Ensure Lasting Results

Orthodontics effectively move teeth into their ideal positions, but it's up to you to ensure your teeth remain aligned. If you're not careful, your teeth can revert back into their old positions, undoing all the progress you've made with orthodontics. To ensure this doesn't happen, your Hamden, CT, dentist will instruct you on how often to wear a retainer. This could be several nights a week or every night indefinitely. You may be able to use the last set of aligners in your treatment plan as a retainer.

Frequently Asked Questions About Orthodontics

Does clear aligner treatment hurt?

No. Orthodontic treatment is not painful. There may be some mild discomfort as you adjust to each new set of aligner trays, but this is easily managed at home with things such as over-the-counter pain medications. This discomfort should subside after a few days. If you experience any bothersome symptoms such as your aligner trays rubbing the soft tissues of your mouth, contact our Hamden office and your dentist may be able to make some adjustments to improve comfort. However, the laser-trimmed edges make this a rare occurrence.

Will insurance cover SureSmile treatment?

This depends on your plan and provider. Some dental insurances will cover at least a portion of your clear aligner treatment. We will verify coverage before treatment begins so you can plan and budget. We also accept financing through CareCredit® to help those without insurance or to help with costs not covered by dental insurance.

How much does SureSmile cost?

Orthodontic treatment using SureSmile is customized to your unique needs. Your cost will vary depending on how extensive your dental misalignment is and if you need any sort of preparatory treatment before you begin orthodontics. During your initial consultation, your dentist will provide an estimate.

Are there age requirements for SureSmile orthodontics?

There are no age requirements for clear aligners. However, if your child needs orthodontic treatment, they must be responsible enough to wear the aligner trays for the required time and be able to maintain them.
